A man has died after being involved in a crash overnight in west Phoenix.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Thomas Road near Interstate 17 around 1 a.m. on Monday. Phoenix Police said officers arrived and found the male driver unconscious and in critical condition.

First responders later pronounced the man dead at the scene. He has not yet been publicly identified.

Thomas Road was closed in both directions from 27th Avenue to I-17, but the road reopened around 6:20 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing to find what led to this crash.
