Three people are in the hospital after they were struck by a truck near a Cave Creek restaurant on Friday evening.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies received reports of an accident with multiple people injured near Harold’s Cave Creek Corral, located just off Cave Creek Road.

Investigators say the driver of a Chevrolet pickup was driving recklessly when exiting the parking lot of Harold’s and then drove the wrong direction on Cave Creek Road.

The pickup hit a stopped GMC truck, eight parked motorcycles and three adults.

Two people were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, and a third was hospitalized with minor injuries. It is unclear what their current conditions are, but MCSO said their injuries are considered life-threatening.

The suspect was processed for DUI, MCSO said their charges are pending and could change depending on the injuries of the victims. The suspect’s name has not been released.

The incident happened during Cave Creek Bike Week, a ten-day event that brings in bikers from across the country.

One of the attendees told Arizona’s Family the suspected driver was showing off his car before the accident.

“The driver, he was lighting up his tires, showing off. There was a horrendous noise. He crashed into another car. When I walked around, there was one, there were two people that I saw that were on the ground. And paramedics were working on it as best as they could,” Mike said.

Another attendee, Nicholas Haddorn, said there is “no reason for it to be happening. They don’t need to be doing that around the bike, so I don’t know what he’d be thinking.”

Detectives with MCSO’s vehicular crimes unit have taken over the investigation to determine what led up to the collision.
